Verkko - Nätet was launched in the autumn of 2008 as a part of the project Digital video as a tool for the island youth and digital forum, and is now continuing within the project Network and digital forum for the island youth.

The aim is to bring together young people in the province of Western Finland. The main goal of the project is to create a permanent network for young islanders. Starting exchange between youth living on islands in Finland and offering possibilities for international exchange between islands in Europe are longer term targets.

A group on Facebook and a discussion forum have been opened for young people who live on islands or archipelagoes.

A writing competition was organized with the idea of getting youth involved into writing about their island and life there. The articles had to be written in Finnish or Swedish to emphasize the equality between the languages. Now the texts need to be illustrated and published.
