DigivideoDigivideo was launched in the autumn of 2008 as a part of the project Digital video as a tool for the island youth and digital forum. During the five course weekends youths from Iniö made together eight fine short films about the archipelago, the sea, their own surroundings. In the spring the course was arranged at Velkua where local youths produced, among other things, a short documentary about the famous Velkua ape. The course continued at Rymättylä as a part of the project Network and digital forum for the island youth. The idea of the project is to make it possible for the island youth to become acquainted with the production and the technical means of film making, perhaps the most important current means of communication, under the guidande of professionals but using ordinary facilities. It is also important for them to learn about the cooperative and communicative strenghts and opportunities that are connected with the production of a film. The target group is the island youth in the age category 13 to 25 year, flexibly implementing the local circumstances, however. On the islands of Iniö and Velkua Lotta Petronella has acted as the direktor, while Aapo Lettinen has had the roles of the technical instructor and coordinator. At FÖSS the responsible persons are Eva Lettinen and Aapo Lettinen. The project has been supported by the foundations Föreningen Konstsamfundet and Svenska kulturfonden as well as the State Provincial Office of Western Finland. Additional information

Stepping StonesThe aim of the Stepping Stones – Development plans for small islands project is to develop the archipelago with a special emphasis on small islands that are without a permanent road connection with the mainland. The project will try to increase the islanders possibilities to influence and develop their environment. The basic idea is that the islanders should be encouraged to take active part in the new communities. One of the goals is the creation of concrete village plans in close cooperation with local village associations and other local actors. The islands of the project were Borstö and Nötö in Nagu (Väståboland), Palva in Velkua (Naantali), Ruotsalainen in Rymättylä (Naantali) and Vänö in Dragsfjärd (Kimitoön). The project ended on 31 October 2009 and resulted in three village plans that cover Nötö, Ruotsalainen and Vänö, three island villages in three different municipalities. The project is supported by Leader and Svenska kulturfonden. Additional information
Verkko – NätetVerkko - Nätet was launched in the autumn of 2008 as a part of the project Digital video as a tool for the island youth and digital forum, and is now continuing within the project Network and digital forum for the island youth. The aim is to bring together young people in the province of Western Finland. The main goal of the project is to create a permanent network for young islanders. Starting exchange between youth living on islands in Finland and offering possibilities for international exchange between islands in Europe are longer term targets. A group on Facebook and a discussion forum have been opened for young people who live on islands or archipelagoes. A writing competition was organized with the idea of getting youth involved into writing about their island and life there. The articles had to be written in Finnish or Swedish to emphasize the equality between the languages. Now the texts need to be illustrated and published. Supported by the Ministry of Education via the State Provincial Office of Western Finland. Additional information
