Sea and inland waters
54 000 people live permanently in the Finnish archipelagos. Of these 8 769 live all the year round on 455 islands without permanent road connection to the mainland. In addition there are 26 000 people on the autonomous Åland Islands. There are both sea and lake archipelagos in Finland.
